NSN Message – April 19, 2013 – Window Falls

April 19, 2013

Window Falls

Every year, when the weather warms up, young children are killed or injured in falls from windows – especially bedroom windows. Don’t let this happen to a child in your community. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reminds parents and caregivers that it only takes five minutes to save a child’s life and prevent this common hazard.

In the time it takes to make a sandwich, empty the dishwasher, or read this message, a parent or grandparent can install window guards or window stops. Window guards prevent children from falling out of windows and window stops prevent windows from being opened more than 4 inches.

Share this video, these safety guides in English (PDF) and Spanish (PDF), and this safety alert (PDF) to help prevent a tragedy in your neighborhood.

See how one community in Oregon is getting the message out in their area.

As always, thanks for helping us spread the word about product safety.

Carl
